Getting after The King of Lifts last night with my crew. The bench press is actually quite nuanced and technical and it's no surprise I typically see the most PRs at the Mastering the Basics workshop on this lift. Most people have never really been taught to bench in an efficient way or how to set themselves up for a tight and powerful lift. The bench is a very excellent lift and don't listen to the people who say benching is bad for your shoulders. How they are benching is bad for their shoulders. So what began as a casual idea of the concept 'PT v PT' where @calumpugsley and I put our "expert" knowledge of all things gym in a battle evolved in to an 1000 rep leg day. Stupid idea. 1 hour 45 minutes later we crawl out of the gym. The video of it will be on Calum's YouTube channel sometime next week, presumably when he can walk again. I'm my usual witty self, obvs. If you wanna try it, I'm gonna post it. Make sure you don't need to use stairs for three days after. @calumpugsley designed the first 500 reps, I took the back 500 and it went down at @kelsey_kerridge, Cambridge's best gym. It went something like (1) Front squats 10 sets of Ten reps. (2) leg press 2 sets of fifty reps. (3) leg press calf raise 4 sets of twenty five reps. (4) dumbbell step ups alternative legs 4 sets of twenty five reps (5) leg extension 5 sets of twenty reps. (6) stiff leg deadlifts 10 reps supersetted with goblet squats 10 reps for four sets. (7) leg curl 10 reps, immediate drop set for another 10 reps then body weight squats straight after for ten reps. (8) seated calf raise 33 reps, 33 reps then 34 reps with the last rep static hold for 5 seconds. (9) body weight glute bridge 10 sets of fifteen. (10) triset to finish: back squat 10 reps, body weight squat 25 reps & explosive squats 15 reps, all straight after each other. Boom. Today seems like it's going to be a good day (8.18) for me. In one year I marry my best friend on 8.18.18 ❤️
Today I passed my certified personal training exam (second pic). I got certified through a new organization (@nasm_fitness) because my current certification wasn't accepted at a handful of the gyms I visited. So in order to create more opportunity to myself I buckled down and studied for a week and a half to take my exam today.
I passed with flying colors! I can't officially announce what's going to happen very soon, but I will say it's big and I'm beyond excited for what's to come. When I can officially announce what's going on, I will give you more details on the last two weeks of "unemployment". Until then, I'm gonna take my girl out to dinner and celebrate passing this exam and our one year out from getting married! 🎉
