Here's a little bit of the son abajeño 'Las Copetonas', the sparrows, performed by my old friends from the east San Francisco Bay, Los Cenzontles. Did you know that horns are a relatively new addition to mariachi? Here we see an older instrument arrangement of two violins, a guitarron (bass) and vihuela (small guitar). Dance is always a welcome part of the son. I was shooting stills for this performance in 2008 for the filmmaker Ricardo Braojos and the LC cultural art center in San Pablo CA. A Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata) couple pose and preen at a pond just south of San Francisco. These monogamous ducks are a very common winter visitor to the California coast. The bill of the Northern Shoveler is elongate and spoon-shaped, with more than 100 fine comb-like projections, designed for filtering food from the water.⠀
For many, San Francisco was and will always remain their first love. It ought to make the guest list. The Yerba Buena Terrace at the St. Regis San Francisco. #stregiswedding#weddingwednesday –– @arrowoodphotography
