Homemade marmalade from the oranges and lemons in our orchard + homemade sourdough. I've tried making bread and marmalade quickly, but those recipes just don't compare with these long, slow beauties. Link in bio for more info about my love/hate relationship with citrus 🍃🍊
Spent the weekend soaking up knowledge & wisdom from Graeme George at his 5ha property near Healesville in the Yarra Valley. Amazed by his seed saving & heritage fruit orchard. Inspiration all around 🍑🍒🍏🍎🍊🍐🥒🥕
Tidying up the Three Sisters plot in preparation for fall planting. I was chased out by another thunderstorm 🙃😂 it has been such a rainy summer here in Delaware.
Here is a look at the bottle gourds in their various stages: blossoming, climbing, fruiting. Harvest will be here before we know it.
If you swipe across to the fourth picture, you can see the various layers in the Three Sisters plot (groundcover, vining, vertical). This section has heirloom watermelon and squash, Cherokee Moon and Stars and Turk's Turban squash respectively. It also has heirloom beans, sorghum, and sunflowers.
In a week or two, I will be seeding perennial medicinal herbs among these plants. As the herbs sprout and set roots, the current plants will be fading out for the season. In this way, we can protect the soil over the winter and be ready to obtain yields in the spring and many years to come.
Sowing Solutions Permaculture Course completed, and I'm now certified!
An amazing and memorable time, even for someone like me who doesn't go out of his way to make connections. #permaculture#landscaping#lawnalternative
Trying my hand at this homesteading stuff, harvesting peaches from a tree that was planted years ago, laying them out to ripen on a hutch that is 130 years old, sitting in this spot where you get a glimpse of the woods and the ledge, and I can't help but think of all the women who have done this before me.
So. The lovely humans at @calmersutratea (I'm looking at you Caitlin!) sent me the sweetest gift pack yesterday. Full of goodies from @dadsoats @the_dailybar @rooftopbees @rawkayaorganics and @mingleseasoning I'm kinda in bliss this morning. .
This shitty cancer journey has certainly introduced me to some pretty fine and generous human beings. 💕
Loving this livescribe poster from David Holmgren's recent talk at the EcoCities conference...
The finishing touches of David's amazingly comprehensive new book 'Retrosuburbia' are happening here at Melliodora as we speak! Can't wait for this manual for permaculture living in the suburbs to finally emerge. Get ready to be inspired about adapting in place, my friends ☺️💪🏽🌱 - oh and scribing by @itsababyanditsyours

"Big things grow in little Air-Pots." 🦁 🔥
This is from one of our favorite #airpotfamily members @lionheart_grower. He is right in with the caption. You can grow more plant in less pot with Air-Pot. Thanks for the awesome post, fam!
