Ingredients

1 cup white quinoa
12 oz medium (51-60) shrimp, peeled and deveined
6 tsp olive oil, divided
Salt
1 1/2 cups frozen peas and carrots blend
1/2 cup shelled edamame
3/4 cup chopped green onions (about 4 stalks)
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tsp peeled and finely minced ginger
4 large eggs
2 Tbsp soy sauce, or to taste
2 Tbsp mirin
2 tsp sesame oil
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
Directions

Preferably the day before preparing this dish cook quinoa according to directions on package in 2 cups water. Chill in an airtight container in refrigerator until ready to use. The quinoa can also be cooked just before preparing the recipe, just drain off any excess liquid.
Heat 2 tsp oil in a 12-inch (fairly deep) non-stick skillet or non-stick wok over medium-high heat. Add shrimp, season lightly with salt and cook, tossing occasionally until shrimp are opaque and just cooked through, about 2 minutes. Transfer shrimp to a plate. Add another 2 tsp oil to skillet. Add peas and carrots, edamame, green onions, garlic and ginger and saute 3 minutes. Push veggies over to one side of the pan. Add remaining 2 tsp oil to opposite side of the pan. Add in eggs and cook and scramble until they are just set (but are still slightly runny). Add quinoa and shrimp to skillet. Drizzle in soy sauce, mirin and sesame oil. Cook and toss until liquid has evaporated, about 2 - 3 minutes. Toss in cilantro and serve warm.

Here is my go to post workout shake #Phormula1 & #Ignition 
I choose Phormula-1 as my post workout protein because after putting myself through brutal weight lifting sessions every morning I need a rapid assimilation protein that is easy for my body to digest and will go immediately to repairing the torn muscle fibers. Being 100% hydrolyzed makes it easier for the body to digest and absorb quickly. It's like taking a pack of starburst, now would you be able to shove the whole pack in your mouth and expect to chew them easily? No! You take smaller pieces which makes it much easier to chew.
Now the second part to my shake is Ignition which to me is 100% equally as important because when you're working out intensely your body is using the stored glycogen in your muscles to perform at its best. After your workout it is crucial to restore the glycogen levels which will also spike your insulin levels that will if it's muscle growth. If you aren't taking in a glycogen replacement supplement like ignition your body will in turn use the protein you drink and turn that into glycogen instead of using it to repair muscle fibers so instead of gaining lean mass you will be losing it. That will keep you out of a anabolic state not allowing you to burn fat. 
I've had a few people try my post workout shake and tell me how much better they felt after using it for just one day.

I was sore as hell, tired, hungry, sitting in AC, unmotivated, feels like 103 degrees outside, & did not want to train.

For me, once I start warming up, my mindset almost instantly changes. You just have to start.. that's all. Ignore the Resistance & all of her reasons why you shouldn't train - or do anything you should be doing. Once I loaded the bar up & started moving some weight around, I uncluttered my mind. Get out of your head!!

Eventually I would go on to hit 10# short of my PR a total of 5 times, as shown in the videos. Once that weight goes over my head, I'm reminded why I push my body & mind the way I do: I love it. I love the suffering, the pain, the challenge, triumphs, lessons, failures - everything about training. And I do it to be the absolute best that I can be. -
Remember your "why." Why are you doing what you're doing? Or should be doing? Is it because you want the end result? Or is it because you actually enjoy the process of the day in, day out grind of completing the tasks to get to the end result? No matter what the goal is, I guarantee only one of those above will take you further than anything else.

Consistency, consistency, consistency!!! ๐Ÿ”‘๐Ÿ”‘๐Ÿ”‘ Transformations don't happen over night. They don't happen over days, and honestly weeks don't even cut it most of the time. Body, mind, soul whatever your transformation goal... It takes #TIME and #HARDWORK I have been on MY journey for years. I am no where near where I want to be, but am a lot closer than I was. It's a learning experience. We do it wrong, we do it right, we kick ass, we half ass it, we quit, we start over, and the cycle continues. It's been a week since my surgery. Although I've been dealing with a lot of pain from the procedures on my knee, I've realized this will be tougher mentally than physically for me. I've never had to rely so heavily on others in my life. I can't stand it. I can't drive, can't get into the shower, can't go relieve stress clangin weights at the gym! I'd really love to be able to take my furballs for a walk. I'm usually the one offering assistance or a helping hand. So this has been a very humbling experience to say the least.

When I was at my thinnest, I was also at my worst. Weak mentally and physically, facing serious depression and anxiety from past physical abuse. Sure, eventually I got into shape, got lean as hell, and even competed once. But guess what โ€“ I was still not that much happier.

As the years wore on I DID get happier. But that happiness never correlated to my fitness progress. In the end, the thing which brought me true happiness finally facing my past issues head on. Until I did that, NOTHING I did or achieved in the physical world would be a proper and permanent solution.

If you want a perfect (although extreme) example of what this kind of mindset will give you, look at the long list of celebrities at their peak who still are no longer with us. Millions of fans, millions of dollars, total achievement of all of their dreams- and yet itโ€™s not enough. There were still unresolved, deep seeded issues that far outweighed these outer, positive achievements. Itโ€™s a prime example of how little our outer achievements will overcome internal struggles.

So, get fit if you want to. BUT your ultimate happiness will not come from these this. It will only come from exacting control over your mentality, and gaining rational perspective over your circumstances โ€“ past and present. Donโ€™t for one second think that a deadlift PR or IG fame will be enough to overcome the bigger issues that affect happiness and self-actualization. There are plenty of miserable fit and rich people, and there are plenty of well centered average people.

Now that I got it off my chest that I had a shitty meet I'd like to get real here. .
Scrolling through instagram I came across a video yesterday of Eddy Coan speaking about the people he's met on the journey through this sport, and how no award will ever stack up to that... It really hit home and made me stop to think about this past 12 weeks. .
This past 12 weeks has definitely had it's ups and downs but the thing that stands out the most is the relationship built with those in this sport. I was fortunate enough to go through this prep with the same coach that has been guiding me the past 2 years @dbell_74. Not to mention making it out to multiple gyms, gaining more contacts and stronger friendships along the way.

This prep has made it very clear to me that I belong here, doing what I love, with the people that make me happy. Thank you all for the help and I look forward to many more with y'all!

While itโ€™s extremely difficult to post how out of shape I was 2 months ago, itโ€™s a testament to what 8 weeks of proper diet and workout can do for the body. Top left was day 1, after vacation. Bottom left is 2 weeks in, and right side is 8 weeks in. Down 19 pounds, strength went up, body fat went down. Huge thanks to @duncanlukas for the guidance. Hit him up for a good regimen. On to the next goal!!

36kg(80lb) strict pull-up, body weight 215lbs. It's crazy to think when I started crossfit I'm 2013, my body weight was 285lbs. 10lbs less than the total weight today. I was also a top 5 ranked NCAA D2 weight and hammer thrower but couldn't even do a pullup... couldn't even bend my arms from a dead Hang...it's awesome to see the changes my body has made and how much stronger it is.

This afternoon I returned back to my RSP unit in Clinton to meet with my Sergeant. Next weekend I have an opportunity at drill to talk to future soldiers about my experiences so far in the Army. I can't wait!! I'll report to my unit in KC for the first time in Septemberโ€ข
Of course, it was leg day. I'm currently focusing on more of an upper/lower/upper body split, instead of a traditional bodybuilding split. I'll be training 5 days with 2 active rest days a week. I'm curious to see how my body will react, but so far I'm loving it! ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿป

Maybe it's the post-workout endorphins, but man, I've felt like I've been on top of the world today. ๐Ÿ˜Š โ€ข This afternoon I returned back to my RSP unit in Clinton to meet with my Sergeant. Next weekend I have an opportunity at drill to talk to future soldiers about my experiences so far in the Army. I can't wait!! I'll report to my unit in KC for the first time in Septemberโ€ข Of course, it was leg day. I'm currently focusing on more of an upper/lower/upper body split, instead of a traditional bodybuilding split. I'll be training 5 days with 2 active rest days a week. Working hard has different definitions. My definition changes daily. On Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays, I am helping/training clients (constantly moving). On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I am cleaning houses, studying for my personal training test, and working on school (having to sit and concentrate).

Every day is different. Every day there is a different style of grit and work put in. That doesn't mean each day doesn't count. I've had a hard time taking a step back from training clients at least 5 days a week. I want it so bad that I forget I need some time  to study and graduate high school. I overall need to better my own self so I can help better those around me.

Tuesdays and Thursdays may be a little "slower" but all that matters is that you work on the tasks at hand each and every day. Be better than you were yesterday!
