No posts for a while . . With my 3rd son due in November I've come to the realisation that soon I won't be able to get to the studio in town and I really don't want to stop doing pottery for a year or two. I know I won't have much time but I'm hoping to get a few minutes to myself to get to the end of the garden and be creative. My lovely husband, a friend and I have been busy building a log cabin studio at the end of our garden. It's all very exciting and slightly daunting as I don't know much about setting up a home studio. I'm hoping to learn more this week before taking the plunge into kiln and wheel buying. Any advice is welcome though and if anyone has a home studio in Sheffield that I could visit I'd really appreciate it! 😀x

@birdwurx_ "Venice just pulls it out of you." Coming to Venice 6 years ago led Jason to painting. "It was just the culture. The way people are here." Jason was pursuing acting, after studying at New York Film Academy, living with his parents, and was able to explore art. So between auditions, he began to paint. While he was in and out of Venice for 4 years, with a few years spent in Hollywood, 10 months ago Jason moved back, precisely for Venice’s atmosphere and its impact on his artmaking.
Now Jason is essentially painting fulltime. "I enjoy it. It's where I feel most at home and relaxed. It doesn't feel like work." He was a natural in drawing and painting as a child and was placed in advanced art classes in school, but aside from taking the required classes, didn’t do anything with it. Over the course of the past two years, Jason has also started doing interior design and works with realtors to stage homes with art. The paintings are offered for sale with the home, and Jason has sold a few paintings via this avenue. “It's a platform to sell art. It's easier than finding a gallery, getting people to the gallery, and making a sale. It's a nice shortcut to selling the work." And having the art seen this way also leads to commissions.
Jason continues to explore different styles, from realistic to abstract. "I don't have a certain niche. Some styles I can work with and manipulate easier. I'm still searching for my niche, I guess you can say." At the same time Jason is looking to get back into acting and modeling, saying he likes to engage assorted areas simultaneously, rejecting the notion one must focus on one thing. He paints 4 to 5 times per week now that he has a home studio, far more often than when he lived in Hollywood.
Originally from Rochester, NY, Jason says, “This time around in Venice everything is falling into place. I just got engaged. We bought a house. It's easier for me to focus and put myself into this fulltime." #artiststudio#artist#venicebeach#painter#venice#beforetheygo#drawing#homestudio#abstractart#abstract#actor#designer#interiordesign
