What’s the best budgeting advice you’ve heard? One great bit of budgeting advice I heard was to give every dollar a job. This way you can avoid the temptation to think “I’ve got some spare money in the budget, I’ll just buy this small item here and here”. Now I make sure that my income and my expenses match, and I give every dollar earned a place to be (whether that's in bills, groceries, events or savings, etc). It helps me to see how much I can really repay to my mortgage, how generous I can be, and where I need to watch my spending. 👌
Some the desire to be #debtfree , isn't as strong as the desire to spend money on the things we want. 😔 | This was how we were for a long time! It's a little bittersweet, but I'm learning how to say "No!" for the first time.
Had to get creative with lunchboxes tonight as we didn't have enough bread and I couldn't face going to buy more so instead the girls have a vegetarian rice paper roll I made for myself a few weeks ago (still getting creative with my fab value 18kg box of sweet potato lol) and I loved them! Fritters were just grated potato, egg and seasoning - I use cumin because I'm obsessed with it 😱 plus sweet paprika - and pepitas added for protein. Miss8 has soy sauce and Miss13 has my favourite PB, hoisin and water dipping sauce. Boys have sandwiches because they won't eat sweet potato 😕 what's going in the lunchboxes at your place - love to hear your ideas as I want to prep more tomorrow so I would love to try some new things!! #lunchboxes#vegetarian#gettingcreative#frugal#healthy#cheap#feedingmyfamily#largefamily#frugalaussiemum#largefamilylogistics#healthylunchboxideas
Birthday present from my brother and his girlfriend 💗 now I'm back from our trip away I'm challenging myself to make 5 nights of thermomix dinners this week! Research begins once the kids asleep! Feel free to join me 🙈 #thatorganisedmumthermochallenge
Alright! I’ve just test packed for our move next year. I have 2 medium sized luggage pieces for all my belongings. Turns out all of my personal belongings (clothes, jackets, shoes, handbags, makeup, hairdryer, curling iron, electric toothbrush, underwear, shower curtain, towel, etc.) fit into 1 piece of luggage 😃This means, I can use the other case for my little one’s clothes and toys AND some homeware and whatever else fits. I’m very happy with this.
#24weekspregnant with #babynumber9 baby boy is the size of a French press or an ear of 🌽. I had a dream about delivering him and asking for him to be brought to me. I called him by his name👶 I have been struggling with choosing his name. Jose has a name but it's a name that we were thinking about using for child number 7 and we didn't use it for number 8, so I'm not sure 🤔 #largefamilyproblems#runningoutofnames
Hello ladies! I've been quiet all week madly planning for my festivities... Well I've just celebrated my 30th Birthday yesterday and feel on top of the moon!!! I had the best day with my most beloved friends and family and hosted a birthday bash for 40 people at our home last night ~ my much anticipated mexican fiesta party!! 🌵🦊🌶🍒 I am very happy with my budget bottom line. .
F O O D 🍅🍍🍋🍇🍎 $359 (includes all entrees, a taco/burrito bar with beef, chicken and pork), cake and basic kitchen wares for cooking).
D R I N K S 🥂🍾🍺🍷🍸 $77 (beer, wine for moi and GF, ingredients for four big jugs of homemade sangria which was 💥 if I do say so) .
D E C O S 🌷🎉🎈$95 (includes our outfits/costumes, balloons, pinata, general festive bits and bobs like candles).
T O T A L S P E N D 🦊🐴🦌 $ 531 for an amazing party for 40 people at our home!
Frugal choices 💲👩🙆💲👩🙆💲👩🙆💲👩🙆
- Using decor from our home (what we already had) to decorate or borrowing from friends!
- Major strategy - Buying food/decor ahead of time when ON SALE where possible - canned foods, alcohol, meat to freeze.
- Borrowing kitchen equipment.
- Having realistic expectations and wanting an authentic vibe, not a perfect vibe!
- Baking our own cake!! .
- Being organised to pre-purchase food/goods with FlyBuys/Woolies dollars ahead of time really helped.
- Guests BYO'd drinks and were very happy to do so given how much mucho deliciouso food there was!! ..
- Hosting in my beautiful backyard and not paying for a venue or cover charge! .
Wow, what an amazing time I had 🦊🙆🍋🥂 30 feels wonderful. And nailing my party on a budget is an encouraging and satisfying feeling. Grazias xxoo
Yummy roast pork dinner! Had a very sad looking pumpkin in the crisper so instead of the usual roast vegetables, we had mashed pumpkin and steamed vege. The corn and carrot were also left over from last week but were still in great shape.
When we grocery shop we always move and leftover produce into the left hand drawer so we know to use first. Getting really good at not wasting any vegetables. Only think left from last week is a half a small bag of spinach which ill be chopping up tomorrow and freezing. The spinach is perfect to hide in spag bol and other tomato based dishes. Yum!
**Thai Red Curry Pork Steak with Cucumber Salad, Satay Sauce & Fresh Roti | Total $13.64, Serves 2**
2 large butterfly pork steaks - $7.20
1 tablespoon fish sauce - $0.30 1 tablespoon red curry paste - $0.50
2 teaspoons sunflower or rice bran oil - $0.20 1 cup coriander leaves - $0.75 1 Lebanese cucumber, spiralled (or use a peeler to cut into strips) - $0.91
2 cups jasmine rice, cooked - $0.40
1 small green capsicum, thinly sliced - $0.68
1 lime, cut into wedges - $1.00
1 tablespoon smooth peanut butter - $0.55
1 teaspoon chilli sauce - $0.20
1 teaspoon of sesame oil - $0.20
1/2 teaspoon kaffir lime leaves (jar) - $0.40
1 1/2 cups plain flour, plus extra for dusting - $0.15 1 tablespoon canola oil - $0.20
1/2 teaspoon of salt from the pantry
Combine the fish sauce and red curry paste in a large bowl, add pork and toss well to coat | Heat the rice bran oil in a large frypan over medium-high heat. Cook the pork for 3-4 minutes each side. Cover to keep warm | Prep the salad of cucumber & capsicum, sprinkling with fresh cori | In a pan on low heat, melt down the peanut butter with chilli sauce, sesame oil and kaffir lime for the satay | In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the centre and add 1/2 cup warm water and canola oil. Mix for 1 min or until the dough has come together. Allow dough to rest at room temperature for 15 mins | Form the dough into 8 equal balls. Dust the balls with flour and roll out to circle-like shapes | Heat a large heavy frying pan over medium heat. Place 1 rolled piece of dough in the hot frying pan and cook for 20 secs each side or until brown spots begin to show (for extra charcoal, roti can then be held over bare flame using tongs if cooking with a gas oven). Repeat with the remaining rolled dough pieces | Serve pork with the salad, jasmine rice, satay, lime wedges and roti on the side | Enjoy 😋
I had a pay day today where I can put all the money on the mortgage 🎉 this makes two pay days at 100% savings. I'm going to aim for more in August -- once the bank opens I'll have enough now for my triple mortgage payment goal 😀
Day 41 of 99...I said I was going to step it up a notch and so I decided I want to try and live a more frugal life which is easier for me than what it is for truck driver husband. So I spent the afternoon meal prepping for things he can take with him for the week with the hopeful result of less money being spent on packaged food!! #holidaycountdown#mealprep#baking#frugal#frugalliving#savingmoney#makinglifeeasy
Bought this pram in great condition for $50 from Facebook's Marketplace (really need a reversibe pram). I was going to haggle but when I saw how sturdy & substantial it was in person I was happy to pay for $50, also it helps another mumma out with their hustle.
Small talk with the seller and a few moments later... Seller: My son only just started walking at 16mos.
Me: Oh you have a son, I've got a 4yr old girl and this one (pointing at my tummy) is my first baby boy. Do you by any chance sell some newborn clothes too? I'm happy to buy them in bulk (doesn't hurt to ask).
S: Well yes! Follow me.
*hands me 3 bin bags full of baby clothes* Here take em with you I'm just happy to get it out of the house. I was just going to donate it anyway at least now I know someone will actually use them.
Me: Are you sure??? 😮
I couldn't believe her generosity 😇. I insisted to pay but the seller refused and carried the bags all the way out to where I parked my car. I was a bit overwhelmed and oh so grateful.
I spent last night sorting through the bags. I ended up donating the other two and kept one to myself. There was so much clothes that I've just kept what I really need from newborn to 12mos, summer to winter all covered (even xmas costumes). There's really no reason for me to buy any more.
I feel like all that decluttering and donating in the past few months has been reciprocated back to us in ways more useful than I could've imagine.
Anyway, I just really want to express how grateful I am for all the generous mummas out there! THANK YOU! You inspire us all 💕 .

Ok. So I know all of you in the debt free community already do this, but one way I save is by making sure allllll of my jars are totally empty. I didn't always pay attention to this, and I know I was throwing away a ton of extra food! For example 👉👉 this jar of almond butter. It looks 👀 mostly empty, but when it was all said and done I got more than 2 (almost 3!!) tablespoons of almond butter of the jar when I scraped to the bottom. Enough for two more smoothies!! Who else does this??? I know I'm not alone. 👍😬
We are staying at a lovely campground with a nice pond. I finally felt energetic enough today to try swimming. We waited until 7 p.m. because my face seems to be photosensitive ( rash for 3 weeks and counting). Unfortunately, we didn't factor in water temp. in Maine and nearly froze😬. We looked kind of silly swimming for only 10 min.😂 #wearefromtexas#wedidntknowwatercouldbethatcold
