Hello Handstand. 👋🏼 This pose is hands-down (sorry, cheesy pun 😜) the one I get asked about the most - comments, e-mails, & messages all wanting to know how to find hang time. I also frequently get asked how long it took me to learn to handstand. Now I can answer that with a numerical value (a few months from the time I genuinely started working on it), but the real answer is that there is no universal length of time it takes to learn this pose. Not only does it vary for each individual, but once you do find it, there's always room to improve. 👌🏼
If you've recently started to hold your handstand there is a good chance it looks something like the image on the left - I know mine did. The truth is that most of us are so happy to actually be holding this for more than 1.2 seconds than to notice anything else, like alignment or form 😂 So congrats on finding some balance here, but now let's take a look at how to improve the body positioning, because that is what will help you hold this pose longer & keep your spine happy while you're there. 👍🏼
The main thing to keep in mind is that we want our handstand to be straight - the wrists, shoulders, hips, and ankles should all be stacked (see middle photo). The photo on the left, aka the 'banana-back handstand' 🍌, shows what happens when the body is not aligned or engaged - the back is sinking, straining the body, & there is no control in the pose. 👎🏼
We want the back to be in a neutral/hollow position, the shoulders fully extended, & the hands actively pushing the ground away. The quads, core, arms & shoulders are all actively engaged. Toes are pointed and inner thighs & glutes are squeezing together. 🍑💪🏼
A great way to work on alignment without having to worry about balance is to use the wall (see image on the right). With your front body facing the wall, fully extend your arms and shoulders (no bending), & keep your shoulder blades broad and lifted. Now get the hips over the shoulders & wrists without allowing the back arch. 👌🏼

I've been having a crazy work schedule lately and have been having to get up before 5am everyday to get my training session in. I've had so many people ask me how do I find the time to workout? That's easy, I dont find the time, I make the time, no matter what! Even if it means waking up a couple hours earlier. When I have a goal in mind I always make sure I put it as one of my top priorities, you make time everyday for what is truly important in your life. Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day, it's how you choose to allocate them that'll set you apart from the rest and the result will show 🙏🙌

This Week Has Been Such A Badass Active Week😆 I Did My Personal Best Time For 3 Miles Yesterday At 24.03😊 I Shoulda Kicked It & Pushed Myself Harder. If I Wasn't Dying Or Puking At The End, That Means I Didn't Try Hard Enough. It Means I Had Plenty Of Energy To Spare. Onto The Next Subject: STRETCHMARKS!🐅🐅🐅 They're Starting To Pop Up More & More. No Longer Are They Only On My Upper Outer Thigh/Butt, But They're Starting To Work Their Way Down My Outer Thighs/Legs. Now See, Right About Now, The Next Typical Girl Move Would Be To Go Into Panic Mode & Start Looking For Some At Home Remedies, But I'm Not. I'm Ecstatic! My Legs Are Growing, My Stretchmarks Are A Validation Of That😄 They're Not Even Noticeable Unless I Try Hard To Make Them Visible At Certain Angles/Lighting. Nothing A Little Tan Can't Fix😉 A Tan Actually Helps Conceal Them Up A Bit. Not Even At 16 Years Old, Pregnant, Not Putting On Lotion Daily Did I Deal With Stretchmarks🤣 For The Last 8 Years, I've Been Putting Lotion On My Body From Head To Toe Every Single Day, So This Was The Inevitable & I'm Fine With It😀 ALSO, I Just Noticed A Few Stretchmarks (also barely visible) On My Inner Thighs😆 My Legs Are Getting Bigger🤗 🍗🍗
