Today I went for my 2nd or 3rd run ALL YEAR. I used to run 10ks all the time, and today on my old route I struggled to do under 5k. This was a big stab in the gut for me, but also reminds me that it takes consistency in anything to progress. One of the most common messages I get is in regards to people’s calorie intakes. Is it too much or is it too little and honestly, the answer is almost ALWAYS too little. Men saying they eat ~1800kcal (or even less) per day and women eating ~1200kcal (or even less) all WHILST lifting 7x/wk with sometimes daily cardio. Stop and read the following carefully to hopefully put thing into perspective for you.

Resting metabolic rate (RMR) 👉🏼 the amount of energy you burn per day doing nothing but sitting on a couch with a chamber over your head analysing the rate at which you consume energy. Robert McMurray (2014) have come up with an estimation that on average this is 0.863kcal/kg/hr, slightly higher for men vs women, decreasing with age and less in overweight vs normal weight adults.  Nonetheless, 0.863kcal/kg/hr for today’s example.

For a 75kg male that’s 1553kcal, for a 60kg female that’s 1242kcal, to function as a POTATOE and ensure your organs work efficiently and you don’t die. For the guy eating 1800kcal PLUS weights and DAILY cardio, you are thus averaging a NET caloric intake of well under that 1553 (assuming you burn >353kcal between cardio and weights which you definitely will be) and that’s not even taking into account NEAT because unlike RMR testing, you won’t be lying down all day, you will be at work moving and thus could accumulate up to another 500-1000+kcal burn and averaging a NET intake of >1000kcal or even less..

Same for women eating 1200kcal where in some cases your NET intake could be so low that you come close to having 0kcal left for your body to use for functioning. No wonder you feel like shit, are losing periods, libido, sleep, are depressed etc. Seriously, unless you have been cleared by a doctor to have such a low calorie diet at such a crazy training schedule then STOP AND FIX YOURSELF. ➖

MOVE WITH PURPOSE
[INCREASE STABILITY IN YOUR OLYMPIC LIFTS]

Many just focus on mobility and not enough stability while Olympic weightlifting. .
Being able to control/stabilize the motion that is being executed is crucial. Having the stability throughout the body will make your lifts more effective and efficient in the snatch and clean.

If your unable to control/stabilize the motions, you definitely won't be as effective. .
Here is a great movement exercise/ test to see if you can control that motion in the exploding zone of both the snatch and clean. .
Since it's more of a Sagittal plane motion, you still want to work on frontal and transverse plane stability from the feet up. .

Perform 2 reps for a 1-2 second pause at the top.

FIRST MOVEMENT SEQUENCE 
1. Starting on both feet, then heel coming off the ground into( plantar flexion), driving elbows up.
2. Same process, @ above knee

4. Same process, @ ankle 
SECOND MOVEMENT SEQUENCE

1. Starting on balls of your feet (FOREFOOT) holding plantar flexion, and driving elbows up.
2. Same process, @ above knee

It's flex Friday and today I'm flexing the one muscle that can change one's mood, make them feel special, brighten another's day and the one muscle that will be there when we're old and gray: my smile. Smiles are contagious and imagine the impact that it could have in the life of others. It's the one muscle that we should be exercising daily because it takes absolutely no special gym to use it. Smile friends, share them with others and hand them out like you have an endless amount to give...because we do.

A little bit occasionally won't hurt, but if you want to limit sugar intake while still eating sweet foods, I'd suggest Stevia. It is a natural sweetener, it's safe and has actually some proven benefits behind it⠀
