Next up in the horoscope series is the Scorpio, the most intense, mysterious, and magnetic sign of the Zodiac. Hence all the dramatic light in this picture that I waited patiently for like some Nat Geo photographer attempting to capture the essence of the cocktail in the wild. It only took about 50 shots. What can I say? I wanted to really do justice to Scorpio’s intensity. Link in my profile for the blog post.
Some Like It Hot
1½ oz black pepper infused Plymouth gin
¾ oz Suze d’Autrefois
½ oz Barrow’s Intense ginger liqueur
½ oz Von Humboldt’s turmeric cordial (from Tamworth Distilling)
1 oz Element [Shrub] pineapple turmeric shrub
4 dashes Angostura bitters
Shake all ingredients except the bitters and pour into a chilled wine goblet, cocktail coupe, or Nick & Nora glass. Slowly add the Angostura bitters on top. Garnish with a candied ginger. Cheers to Scorpio!
The fact that Scorpio is ruled by Pluto and is a water sign means that those born under it can have calm, somewhat reserved, outward appearances that mask the swirl of intensity that is happening below the surface. Tireless truth seekers and brave trendsetters, Scorpios can make the rest of us squirm under their watchful and penetrating gaze. Their cocktail needed to reflect all that power so I went with a very intense combination of flavors. The Ango bitters, black pepper infused gin, turmeric cordial, and ginger liqueur all have a bite to them that’s softened by the shrub and the Suze, but not by much. The end result is cocktail that is its own swirl of hypnotizing, almost aggressive flavors. I hope I got this right. I really don’t want to be on the bad side of any Scorpios out there. There’s always that stinger to contend with… 🦂🔥🌊
We don't know about you guys but we have serious Monday blues today! Can we go back to the weekend and drink gin again?
On Saturday 'The Gin To My Tonic' were guests of Gin Festival in Oxford. We adore Oxford, it’s such a beautiful city filled with history, culture and diversity, so we were delighted when we heard that Gin Festival would be running an event at the majestic Town Hall.
Attracting over 3,000 guests it’s been a huge success – over 100 gins, 9 premium Fever Tree tonics, 4 gin fuelled sessions and fabulous guest gin brands!
There’s literally something for everyone, including us as we managed to expand our own gin knowledge by trying some fantastic new gins including Jawbox Gin (Ireland), Da Mhile Seaweed Gin (Wales) Puerto De Indias Strawberry Gin (Spain) and Big Boss (Portugal), to name but a few.
A big shout out to Ableforths, Brockmans, Cotswold Distillery, Poetic License & Tinker who made us feel so at home and like part of the team!
No doubt Gin Festival will be back in Oxford in the near future, so if you missed out this time keep an eye out for future announcements, and if Oxford is too far away then don’t worry as Gin Festival are sure to be rocking up with 100+ gins to a city/town near you. Congratulations to all at Gin Festival! @ginfestival @fevertree_uk #thegintomytonic
