My 3 best tips:
I searched flights to Jordan daily and the r/t prices were all way over $700. I was consistent in my search and finally caught a price drop, to under $500 on @RoyalJordanianAirlines. I booked it.
Tip: Check flights regularly. Get an app that populates prices from all airlines. My go to is @skyscanner.
Flights from my home city (Atlanta) to Jordan were priced around $780 r/t with a 4-5 hour layover each way. The flight I booked was non-stop, out of Chicago for under $500 for the same dates. So cheaper and no long layover. (note: my RT Atlanta to Chicago is $130 on @AmericanAir)
Tip : Don’t just look for flights out of your home city. Check for flights out of a major International Airport within a short flight of your home city.
For me to depart on the Thursday of my trip the cost was $428 for the one way. I checked Friday and the cost was $208 for the one way. By leaving a day later paid half the price.
Tip: Have flexible days you can depart and return on
